Winter Fun Things to do in Delaware

January

On New Year’s Day Middletown, DE celebrates their annual Hummers Day Parade. Locals spoof the past year’s big news events with this wacky parade down Main street. Here’s a link to YouTube for videos of past Hummers Day parades, LOL funny!

Brandywine Zoo – Can’t forget about our critters at the Zoo and yes they are open in the winter. They have special events every month for the whole family to enjoy like MLK Day Camp for kids. Keep the calendar of events handy for easy reference all year long.

Hagley Museum and Library– Hagley offers an array of events and programs year-round for people of all ages at the historic site along the banks of the Brandywine River in Wilmington, Delaware.

In the winter months admission is free! Take a 2 hour guided tour of this generous 235-acre site. Click the link above for more details on upcoming events and programs at Hagley Museum.

February

Polar Bear Plunge – Head to Rehoboth Beach in February for the Polar Bear Plunge which benefits the Special Olympics Delaware. Jump into the chilly waters of the Atlantic or watch from the boardwalk and marvel at the brave souls taking the plunge. Check out the website for a list of activities scheduled “Be Bold, Get Cold!”

Lewes Winter Barkfest – Come out and bring your pup and mingle with the mutts for “Yappy Hour” at Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant in Lewes DE.

This fun event takes place on their heated, enclosed porch. The Delaware SPCA Georgetown shelter will host a “Fill the Van” during the event at which time they are soliciting donations of blankets, sheets, pet food, kitty litter, toys , dog bones and bleach for cleaning their kennels. Attendees to the Yappy Hour can come with or without pets and dogs should be on a leash with one dog and one handler.

There will be a 50/50 raffle benefiting the SPCA. Additionally, Irish Eyes is donating 10% of their total food sales for the entire day to the SPCA. Contact the Lewes Chamber of commence for more information. Tons of fun with your 4 legged friend!
